from foundational skills to elite performance.

Skills Development

Age: 7–10 years

The Skills Development Squad focuses on building a solid technical foundation across all strokes. Swimmers are introduced to correct body positions, breathing control, starts, and turns. Emphasis is placed on enjoyment, teamwork, and understanding the basics of racing.

Training Sessions: 2–3 per week
Competitions: Encouraged based on coach recommendation
Next Pathway: Junior Development

Junior Development

Age: 9–12 years

Junior Development refines swimmers’ technical and tactical understanding. Coaches introduce pacing, underwater work, and advanced drills. Discipline and accountability begin to play a greater role at this level.

Training Sessions: 3–4 per week
Competitions: Regular club and invitational meets
Next Pathway: Junior Plus or Age Group Development

Competitive Development

Age: 11–15 years

Designed for athletes developing a competitive mindset. Training includes endurance, turns, and race tactics with a continued focus on efficient technique. Ideal for swimmers balancing sport and academics.

Training Sessions: 3–5 per week
Competitions: Local and regional competitions
Next Pathway: Junior Plus

Junior Plus

Age: 12–14 years

Junior Plus prepares swimmers for high-level competitive environments. Sessions include resistance work, gym skills, and goal setting. Coaches emphasize independence and race analysis.

Training Sessions: 4–6 per week + land sessions
Competitions: Regional championships & time trials
Next Pathway: Performance

Age Group Development

Age: 11–13 years

This squad is for high-performing swimmers with regional and national potential. Training blends endurance, power, and recovery cycles, alongside mental toughness and nutrition awareness.

Training Sessions: 6–8 per week (pool + land)
Competitions: Regional and national events
Next Pathway: Performance Squad

Performance

Age: 13–15 years

Performance swimmers follow a structured, data-driven program focusing on peak performance. Training includes strength conditioning, video analysis, and race simulations.

Training Sessions: 6–8 per week + dryland
Competitions: National & international meets
Next Pathway: High Performance

High Performance

Age: By Selection (Elite)

The High Performance Squad represents the pinnacle of the Tyneside program. Swimmers train under individualized performance plans including strength, strategy, and mental conditioning. Leadership and mentorship within the club are core expectations.

Training Sessions: 8–10 per week (pool + gym + land)
Competitions: International and national-level meets
